About Markling
Markling is a Markdown editor provided by Mihail Duchev. These terms describe use of the Markling website and the app where a separate store licence does not govern. Markling is free on iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro. Android core editing is free; Android Pro is an optional one-time purchase for exports, as described below. The Mac App Store version is free to download, with an optional 14-day full trial followed by a one-time paid unlock. There is no separate Markling account, advertising, or subscription. Internet access, devices, and third-party services may have their own costs.
App Store licence
For copies obtained through Apple's App Store, Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to the app licence. These website terms do not replace that agreement or create a custom App Store EULA. The relevant store's terms also apply to downloads, updates, and its services.
Mac trial and one-time unlock
On Mac, download free from the Mac App Store and choose a 14-day full trial. Continue with a one-time unlock for €14.99 (US$14.99 in the United States). Prices in other storefronts may vary; Apple shows the applicable price before you confirm. There is no subscription or automatic charge when the trial ends.
The Mac trial starts when you complete the free 14-day Trial activation in the app. It lasts 14 consecutive days from the original trial activation. After it ends, you can still open, read, copy, export and print documents, and save outstanding edits with Save or Save As. Creating documents or making further edits requires the one-time unlock. The trial does not renew or become a paid purchase automatically. Your documents remain your files and are not deleted when the trial ends.
Use Restore Purchases in the Mac app while signed in to the Apple Account used for the purchase. An internet connection may be needed to verify or restore access. Restoring the trial keeps its original end date; it does not start another 14 days. If a purchase is refunded or revoked, it no longer grants the unlock.
Purchases are processed by Apple under the applicable App Store terms. The unlock is a one-time purchase, not a recurring subscription. It does not promise perpetual support or compatibility with every future operating system. For an Apple-billed purchase, use Apple's refund request service; eligibility depends on Apple's terms and applicable consumer rights. Nothing here limits mandatory legal rights.

Android Pro — one-time unlock
Android Pro is available for PDF/printing and self-contained HTML export at a US$9.99 base price. Google Play localizes prices and shows the applicable price before confirmation. Editable Word (DOCX) export is planned for a later Android update. There is no Android subscription or trial, and installing or updating the free app does not authorize a charge.
Opening, reading, editing, saving ordinary Markdown files, Preview, Split view, outline, find and replace, and line numbers remain unlimited and free. Pro applies only to the Android export features identified above; a Mac unlock and Android Pro are separate purchases in their respective stores.
Pro is a one-time, non-consumable purchase through Google Play. Restore it with the same Google Play account after reinstalling or on another Android device. A purchase must complete before Pro access is granted. Pending or cancelled payments do not unlock Pro. A refunded or revoked purchase no longer grants Pro access once detected. Core editing and your documents remain available. The one-time purchase has no recurring fee and does not promise perpetual support or compatibility with every future operating system.
Google processes payment and handles refunds under its store terms and applicable consumer law. A parent or guardian should manage purchases for a child through the store account and family controls. Nothing in these terms limits mandatory consumer rights.
Other distribution channels
For copies obtained from Google Play or another authorized channel, Mihail Duchev grants you a non-exclusive licence to install and use Markling on devices you own or control for personal or work use, subject to applicable store rules. The app is licensed, not sold. You may not distribute modified copies under the Markling name, misrepresent the app's origin, or remove copyright notices. This does not restrict rights granted by the licences of included open-source components or by applicable law.
Your documents remain yours
You retain your rights in the documents and other content you open or create. Using Markling does not transfer their ownership to the developer or grant the developer permission to publish them. You are responsible for having the rights and permissions needed to use and share your content, and for using the app and website lawfully.
Files, backups, and exports
Markling works with files on your device and in file providers you choose. Keep backups of important work and check the save location and exported output. Access and saving can depend on the operating system and file provider. PDF and standalone HTML render supported diagrams and math and include referenced footnotes as endnotes. Layout, styling and pagination can differ from Preview and between platforms. Images depend on access and network availability; missing or invalid images use a readable fallback such as alternative text. Rendering failures may preserve readable source, while resource limits or timeouts may stop an export with an explanation without changing your source document. Markling is not a backup or cloud-sync service.
Upcoming writing tools, history and privacy controls
The next writing-tools update is being prepared for testing; features and platform integrations may differ from the version currently available in your store. Local history is bounded and can discard old snapshots; it does not replace backups. Restore as Copy and clearing history leave the original document separate. App lock and screen-preview protection limit access inside Markling but do not encrypt files or revoke another app's file access.
The upcoming DOCX export creates an editable Word-compatible document from supported text, headings, links, lists and tables. Diagrams, formulas and authored HTML use readable source fallbacks, and images use alternative text and source locations rather than embedded graphics. Complex Markdown can have simpler presentation in DOCX. Choose PDF or HTML when you need supported rendered graphics, and inspect every exported file before sharing it. The new capture, template and table tools continue to save ordinary Markdown and adjacent assets under the file permissions you grant.
Third-party services and content
Cloud file providers, app stores, linked websites, and hosts of remote HTTPS images operate independently and have their own terms and privacy practices. Availability of their services is outside the developer's control. Review documents from other people before opening links or exported HTML in a browser. The app includes third-party software subject to its respective licences and notices.
Privacy and support
The privacy policy explains local app data, remote-image requests, support correspondence, and website hosting. Support is provided through the contact details below. There is no guaranteed response time or promise that every request will result in a feature or fix.
Availability and your legal rights
The developer aims to keep Markling useful and reliable, but does not promise uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, or compatibility with every document, provider, or future operating system. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any mandatory consumer rights, statutory guarantees, remedies, or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. The store licence governs any app warranty or liability provisions where it applies.
Updates and ending use
Features and these terms may change. Material changes to these terms will be published here with an updated effective date and will not retrospectively remove rights you already have. Any future paid offer would require its own clearly presented price and terms. Installing Markling, starting the free Mac trial, or using a free version does not authorize an automatic charge. You can stop using Markling at any time. Keep copies of wanted documents before removing app data or uninstalling.
